Beauty trends this year stand out for being dominated by skincare and experimenting with makeup looks. Moving away from harsh scented products, the top skincare trends of this year include SPF, glass skin and ceramides.

Popular makeup trends like glitter lips and faux freckles are also popular this year, ranking among the top 20 hottest trends.

At Hey Discount we wanted to find out which celebrities have the most expensive beauty routines, so we looked at the price of each product used by popular celebs in their go-to routines.

We also looked at the maximum estimated potential earnings of some of the most popular beauty influencers on Instagram and TikTok.

1. Retinol

2022 is all about skincare and retinol is the most popular trend according to Instagram, TikTok and Google searches. You’ve probably heard of retinoids by now - while vitamin A derivatives have been used for decades, the popularity of retinoids has risen recently and you can now find a type of retinol in many serums and creams.

The miracle ingredient everyone’s talking about works differently for everyone, but benefits include the reduction of fine lines, improved collagen production, blemishes reduction and the correction of pigmentation issues.

The first recorded uses of gua sha took place during the Ming dynasty - China’s ruling dynasty from 1368 to 1644, and in Asia, this healing treatment has been practised by many people daily for centuries. Although, it has only recently become a popular trend worldwide thanks to its popularity on social media.

Methodology

We wanted to find the most popular beauty trends this year, so we used Google Keyword Planner to find the total number of worldwide Google searches for popular skincare and beauty trends in the last 12 months. We also used Instagram to find the number of Instagram posts using the relevant hashtag for each trend, and TikTok to find the number of views for the relevant hashtag for each trend. We then totalled these figures to find the most popular beauty trends of 2022. All information is accurate as of 04/05/22.

We wanted to find the highest-earning beauty influencers on Instagram, so we compiled a list of top beauty influencers using Socialblade and Cosmopolitan. We then used Influencer Marketing Hub’s Instagram Money Calculator and TikTok Money Calculator to find the maximum estimated earnings for each influencer for posting a sponsored post to TikTok or sponsored reel to Instagram. All information is accurate as of 04/05/22.

We compiled a list of celebrities using lists from Glam and Vogue, and we sourced the beauty routines of each celebrity from The Skincare Edit, Teen Vogue, Well and Good, Women’s Health and the Vogue Youtube channel.
